Preface: A Church on Mission

Jesus did not leave the Church with a maintenance assignment. He sent His people into the world with a message, a witness, a way of life, and a command to make disciples. Evangelism therefore cannot be reduced to a special programme that appears twice a year, and discipleship cannot be reduced to a class that people attend after conversion. The Great Commission is the organizing mission of the local church. The central conviction of this book is simple: churches grow sustainably when the whole pathway is taken seriously. We pray for the lost. We reach them with the gospel. We respond carefully when they show interest. We follow up with speed and love. We teach them the foundations of Christian life. We connect them to community. We help them discover gifts and a sense of responsibility. We train them to serve. Eventually, those who were reached become people who reach others. That pathway is spiritual, but it is also operational. Prayer and the Holy Spirit do not make good stewardship unnecessary. The book of Acts contains both divine intervention and deliberate organization. Names were known. Needs were noticed. Leaders were appointed. Doctrine was taught. Resources were shared. journeys were planned. Reports were given. churches were strengthened. Healthy mission requires both fire and form.
