Introduction

The Goal Is Not More Messages-It Is a More Faithful Life A person can collect impressions and remain immature. A church can use prophetic language and still be unsafe. A leader can speak with confidence and still be wrong. The biblical goal of hearing God is therefore not fascination with messages; it is communion with God that produces truth, holiness, love, courage, wisdom, service, and obedience. The phrase 'hearing God' can describe several different realities. Sometimes it means reading Scripture and recognizing its direct claim on us. Sometimes it means the Spirit bringing a biblical truth to remembrance. Sometimes it refers to wisdom formed through prayer, counsel, and providence. In continuationist settings, it may also refer to impressions, dreams, prophetic utterances, or words of knowledge. The danger begins when these distinct categories are collapsed into one level of certainty. This school trains you to name what kind of experience you are having before deciding what it means. Scripture has a unique authority. Wisdom is real but fallible. Impressions may be meaningful but must be tested. Dreams require interpretation. Prophecy is weighed. Circumstances are ambiguous. Counsel can be wise or mistaken. Peace may be genuine or merely relief. By naming categories honestly, you become less vulnerable to spiritual exaggeration. Throughout this book, the repeated movement will be: receive, record, test, submit, wait, obey, and review. Receive without cynicism. Record without embellishment. Test without fear. Submit to Scripture and community. Wait when necessary. Obey what is clear. Review outcomes with humility. This pattern turns spiritual sensitivity into accountable discipleship.
