Introduction: A Faster Tool and a Deeper Question

The message arrives at midnight. “I do not know how to pray anymore. Can you write a prayer for me?” A machine can answer within seconds. It can produce warm sentences, biblical vocabulary, and a gentle ending. The words may even help the tired reader begin. But another question waits beneath the useful output: what kind of help is this, and what must never be confused with it?

Artificial intelligence has moved from laboratories and specialist conferences into phones, classrooms, clinics, churches, offices, studios, and homes. People use it to summarize documents, draft messages, translate languages, generate images, write code, prepare lessons, plan travel, search large collections, and organize routine work. Employers are redesigning jobs around it. Students are deciding when assistance becomes substitution. Artists are asking what authorship means. Pastors are wondering whether a sermon shaped by a model can still be called their own. Families are hearing cloned voices. Lonely people are forming attachments to conversational systems that are always available and never need sleep. Christians often respond to a powerful technology by choosing one of two shortcuts. The first is enchantment. The tool is described as almost magical, and efficiency becomes proof of wisdom. If it can be done faster, it should be done. If an output sounds compassionate, it is treated as care. If a model speaks fluently about God, it is granted authority it has not earned.
