Introduction

Pentecostal spirituality is built around a simple conviction: the God who acted in Acts is not absent from the church today. The Spirit still empowers witness, distributes gifts, convicts of sin, forms holy character, comforts the suffering, and makes the presence of Christ real to his people. Yet the most important word in the title may be “continual.” The Christian life cannot be sustained by one conference, one altar call, one season of prayer, or one memory of extraordinary power. Fee (1994) describes the Spirit as central to Paul’s understanding of Christian existence. Macchia (2006) places Spirit baptism within the larger horizon of God’s kingdom, while Menzies and Menzies (2000) articulate the classical Pentecostal emphasis on empowerment for mission. Turner (1996) examines the Spirit in Luke-Acts in relation to restoration and witness, and Warrington (2008) highlights Pentecostal theology as a theology of encounter. These perspectives do not remove every disagreement, but they help situate experience inside a larger biblical and theological story. This book therefore pursues four goals. First, it grounds hunger for fresh filling in Scripture rather than slogans. Second, it protects spiritual experience through discernment, order, accountability, and ethical practice. Third, it connects empowerment with mission, compassion, and ordinary obedience. Fourth, it gives practical rhythms by which believers and churches can remain receptive to the Spirit across changing seasons. The thirty chapters move through five parts: the promise and Pentecostal pattern; receiving fresh filling; gifts and fruit; protecting the fire; and continual baptism in daily life. The appendices provide a thirty-day devotional, prayers for fresh filling, a discernment framework
