Introduction: The Wallet and the Heart
Few objects expose the heart as quickly as a wallet, a bank statement, or an empty cupboard. Money can make a calm person restless, a generous person guarded, a married couple defensive, and a sincere believer ashamed. It enters our prayers as rent, school fees, transport, medical care, wages, debt, food, business capital, support for relatives, and offerings. Even people who dislike talking about money must make money decisions. That is why Scripture speaks about possessions so often. The Bible is not embarrassed by material life. It begins in a garden where human beings receive a world to cultivate. It follows families through famine, workers through unpaid wages, widows through scarcity, nations through unjust trade, and churches through shared need. Jesus speaks about treasure, debtors, wages, taxes, landlords, merchants, inheritance, generosity, and anxious households. He does not treat money as a private corner disconnected from discipleship. He shows that our use of resources reveals what we love, whom we trust, and how we regard our neighbor. This book begins with a simple invitation: bring money to the feet of Jesus. That does not mean giving every possession away impulsively, handing control to a religious leader, or expecting a miracle formula to multiply cash. It means placing our financial life under Christ’s truth and lordship. What we earn, owe, save, spend, share, fear, and hope for must be allowed into the light.
