Introduction: Why Bible Confidence Matters

Many Christians own a Bible, hear Scripture in church, and still feel uncertain when they open the book for themselves. The problem is not always lack of faith. Often it is lack of a workable method. A reader meets an ancient text, unfamiliar customs, long narratives, poetry, prophecy, letters, genealogies, and difficult passages. Confidence can disappear before a habit has time to form. Bible confidence is not the belief that every passage is easy. It is the settled conviction that Scripture can be approached patiently, reverently, intelligently, and obediently. Paul describes Scripture as God-breathed and useful for teaching, correction, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bereans are commended because they examined the Scriptures carefully rather than accepting claims uncritically (Acts 17:11). Jesus himself repeatedly asked, “Have you not read?” (for example, Matthew 12:3), treating attentive reading as part of faithful discipleship. The aim is not to turn every Christian into a technical scholar. It is to help ordinary believers become careful readers who know how to observe a passage, respect its context, locate it in the Bible’s larger story, and respond in faith. The central discipline is simple: read the text before reaching for commentary about the text. Good teachers, study Bibles, dictionaries, and scholarly works are gifts, but they should support rather than replace firsthand attention to Scripture. Over forty days, you will practise a repeatable rhythm: Read. Notice. Understand. Connect. Respond. Pray. Do not measure success by how
